Abstract
550,315. Feeding sheets. BOBST & FILS SOC. ANON., J. April 24, 1942, No. 5542. Convention date, April 26, 1941. [Class 100 (i)] To enable a sheet-feeding machine to receive a new pile 8 in place of a pile 7 without stoppage of feed the piles are supported by platforms 5, 6 carried by intermittently advanced endless chains 2, 3, 4, and one not shown, a sheet of thin steel 13 being interposed between the platform and the pile so as to support the last sheets of a pile after the main platform 5 or 6 is removed, thus enabling the new pile 8 to be built up so as to contact the sheet 13 and to be separated from the old pile by only a short distance. The pile chains may have links 14 with separate supports 15, 16 for the platforms 5 and sheets 13, and the rear edges of the sheets 13 may be cut away as shown in Fig. 6 in positions corresponding to the location of a feeler device 12 which controls the raising of the chains, thus permitting the action of the raising mechanism to be continuous. The platforms 5 may be formed with let-in rollers to facilitate withdrawal.
