Abstract
549,772. Hydraulic resilient shock absorbing. RUBERY OWEN MESSIER, Ltd., HADEKEL, R., and PERRICHES, A. A. March 3, 1941. No. 2886. [Class 108 (iii)] In apparatus in which a one way hydraulic damping cylinder is combined with an accumulator chamber, liquid is forced by the piston into the chamber through a spring-closed damping valve having the valve and its seating axially tapered relatively to one another so that the port area increases at a rate determined by the taper. In apparatus for damping oscillations of the castor wheel of an aeroplane, oscillation of the cam 15 from its central position forces piston 18 along its cylinder whereby liquid is forced past the throttling valve and moves piston 30 against a spring 31 and against pressure of air in the chamber,by which return movement of piston 18 is effected, an annular one way valve 33 allowing such return movement freely. The throttling valve consists of a slidable sleeve 26 co-operating with a fixed cone 27 and a spring 29 to vary the opening in accordance with the speed of movement of piston 18. In a modification, the spring return means forms a separate attachment on the end of the cylinder. Reference is made to Specifications 343,549 and 492,751.
