Abstract
549,765. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). Jan 15, 1942. No. 602. [Class 112] A rotary take-up mechanism comprises a main rotrya disc 82 carrying thread-engaging pins 96, 97 and a small balanced rotor 89 with a threadengaging pin 93. The rotor 89 is housed in a recess in the disc 82 so that its pin 93 and the pins 96, 97 operate in one plane. The hollow spindle 84 carrying the rotor 89 is mounted in a bearing 83 in the disc 82 and carries a pinion 87 which gears with a stationary spir wheel 79. Guard plates - 98,94 are secured to the disc 82 and rotor 89 and the plate 98 carries two resiliently mounted threadretaining studs 102, 103 which press on the surface of the disc 82. The thread slips past the studs 103, 102 in turn during the expansion of the needlethread loop. Fan blades 108 are secured on the inner side of the disc 82 and cause a cooling stream of air to flow through apertures 109. The take-up mechanism may be enclosed by a hinged transparent cover.
