549,273. Muffle kilns. BONNYBRIDGE SILICA & FIRECLAY CO., Ltd., and Mc- BRYDE, W. Sept. 17, 1941, No. 11889. [Class 51 (ii)] In a circular muffle kiln of the kind comprising an annular wall 2 with fireplaces 5 and heating flues 3, 4 leading to flues beneath the floor and to a central chimney 1, the flues 6 beneath the floor are of spiral shape. The side walls 7 of the spiral flues may terminate short of the chimney 1 so as to provide an annular chamber 8 around the base of the chimney which is formed with spaced openings 9 or the flues may communicate directly through the openings 9 with the chimney. The spiral flues 6 gradually decrease in width towards their exits.
