Abstract
549,250. Mixing machines. BAYON, H. P. June 25, 1941, No. 7992. [Class 86] A rotary mixing apparatus comprises a steamjacketed drum 5 with mixing blades 27 therein carried on a driven shaft 15, the drum and shaft being carried by a cradle 6 mounted on trunnions so that the the drum can be tilted about a transverse axis for charging and discharging. Rings 12 on the jacket are engaged by flanged wheels carried by the cradle, one of the shafts carrying the wheels being driven and provided with a brake so that the drum can be allowed to rotate by drag of the material therein in the same direction as the shaft 15, or can be braked to increase the relative movement. Alternatively, the drum can be driven in the opposite direction to the shaft. A tank 31 is connected to a bore in the shaft 15 so that liquid or gas can be supplied to the drum by non- return valves 32. Discharging doors 36 and charging doors are provided. Chips, shavings and sawdust may be charged into the drum, impregnated with fluid reagents, the interior of the drum connected to an exhausting system whereby volatile constituents are withdrawn. Cresylic acid or xylol may be supplied, vapours being withdrawn. Finally a synthetic resin in fluid condition may be mixed with the treated wood and the plastic mass discharged for moulding.
