Abstract
548,234. Cellulose. WIGGINS, TEAPE & CO. (1919), Ltd., and EDGE, S. R. H. June 13,1941, No. 7492. Drawings to Specification. [Class 2 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] Vegetable raw materials, e.g. straw, jute, sisal, reeds or esparto, are converted into paper pulp by disintegration in a beater or breaker in which they are treated at 35‹ to 100‹C. with alkali, e.g. 15 per cent caustic soda, lime or sodium carbonate and lime, e.g. for one or two hours. There may be four beaters heated by nozzles blowing steam into the alkali liquor, each beater including a drum washer and supplying a bleaching tank.
