548,010. Pipe couplings. GREIG, L. T. H. Dec. 5, 1940, No. 10395/42. Divided out of 547,794. [Class 99 (i)] In a pipe coupling wherein valves 28, 34 tending to close the pipes operate to open each other by abutment when the coupling is made, the seating 20 for one of the valves acts as a spigot adapted to enter with an interference fit into a socket 19 containing the other valve, the joint being sealed by a packing- ring 21 arranged inside the socket 19. The abutment of the valves moves the valve 34 from its seating, while the spigot 20 moves the seating 29 away from the other valve 28. A further packing may be provided at 22.
