[Class 2 (ii)] [Also in Groups VII and VIII] To afford protection against the action of toxic liquids and mists, such as mustard gas, regenerated cellulose sheet material is incorporated in footwear, the material being secured to the upper by adhesive to form a lining or between the upper and the lining as an interlining, or between the insole and the sole, or as a sock which is permanently secured in the footwear. Additionally, such footwear may be provided with loose socks of regenerated cellulose sheet material secured by sewing or adhesive to a backing of leather or lint. In some cases, the regenerated cellulose sheet material may be mounted on a card, or it may be constituted by the known product obtained by coating or impregnating fabric or paper with viscose and then subjecting it to a treatment whereby cellulose is regenerated from the viscose. Materials, such as diphenylamine or finely divided calcium carbonate, which have a neutralizing action on the products of decomposition by water of the toxic liquids, may be incorporated in the regenerated cellulose sheet material.
