Abstract
546,188. Fuel feed systems. HAMILTON, D. St. A. (known as HAMILTON, D.). Feb. 17, 1941, No. 2137. [Class 7 (iii)] A fuel feed system for the engines of motor road vehicles comprises a main tank 1 with an engine-driven pump 6 supplying the float chamber 4 at a higher level, and an auxiliary tank 2 arranged to supply the float chamber by gravity, valves 5, 8, 10 being provided so that fuel can be supplied to the carburetter continuously by way of the tank 2, or it can be supplied from the tank 2 by gravity for starting, the supply for normal running being delivered directly to the carburetter by the pump. The tank 2 may merely contain sufficient fuel for starting, or may be large enough to constitute an emergency supply. The pipe 9 may be dispensed with, in which case the pump 6 would supply the float chamber through the tank 2.
