Abstract
545,328. Knitting. HOSIERY DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd., and MILLS, R. K. Nov. 19, 1940, No. 16665. [Class 74 (ii)] In knitting fabric of the type in which loops are locked or tied by loops passing therethrough and closely therearound, as e.g. in Specifications 329,098, [Class 74 (ii)], 422,779 and 487,665, the locking yarn is maintained under tension and bearing upon the needle while it passed through and around the ground loop. The fabric may be knitted upon a beardedneedle or latch-needle machine of the rotary or stationary needle cylinder type. As described in connection with a latch-needle machine having sinkers each having a catch 6, nose 7 and throat 8, the sinkers are advanced during the formation of the locking-loop to hold the closed end of that loop across the sinker nose and maintain it under tension until it has been knocked over. When the fabric is in its relaxed condition, the locking yarn 10 extends as a substantially straight bar 10<SP>1</SP> between the legs of each ground loop locked by it and freely as at 11 between the adjacent locked loops.
