[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Groups XI, VII and XL] Apparatus for heat-treating articles by the application of a frequency electric field, e.g. drying shoe soles; comprises a number of shoe' supports 10 each having four similar grooved pulleys 12 arranged to travel on rails 14, 14<SP>1</SP> which are curved at their end portions. The supports 10 are driven by an endless chain 18 connected to pins 22 each projecting from one of the supports. Each support 10 remains horizontal on passing around the curved rails, two pinions 24 being rotatably mounted on the sprocket 20 to engage a fixed pinion 25, one engaging a fixed pinion 26 on a plate 28 forming part of the support 10, in a manner similar to that described in U.S.A. Specification 2,132,362. Each support 10 comprises a "Bakelite" (Registered Trade Mark) structure 40, 42, 44 carrying the pulleys 12 on studs which also carry the plate 28. Extensions 50, 52 provide spaces within which a shoe may rest. To facilitate loading and unloading of the shoes, the carrier 76 is swung upward automatically on approaching a pre-determined loading station by a fixed lug 122 which engages the depending arm 124 of a lever pivoted on the shaft 78, the upper arm of which is fixed to the carrier by a bolt 126. Downward movement of the carrier is limited by a lug 128 on the lever which contacts an adjustable stop screw 130.
