Abstract

543,979. Packing. STOKES MACHINE CO., F. J. Aug. 19,1840, No. 13207. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1939. [Class 94 (i)] A process for packaging materials which are adversely affected bymoisture consists ir enclosing the material in a container which is placed in ar hermetically sealed outer con. tainer containing a dry atmosphere. A dessicant may be placed in the outer container, and a moisture indicator may also be included. The inner container 1 may consist of an aseptic via with a vacuum stopper having a section 2a of reduced thickness which can be punctured by a hypodermic needle. The outer container 3 may consist of a metal can the ends of which are hermetically sealed, and it may be provided with a portion 3a removable by a canopening key. Preferably a dessicant 4 is placed in the container 3, and a layer 5 of cotton may be interposed between the dessicant and the container 1. A moisture indicator, such as a cobalt salt that changes colour with absorption of moisture, may be enclosed in the container 3 or may be .mixed with the dessicant. The dessicant need not be used if the container 3 can be baked or otherwise treated to remove all entrapped moisture and then sealed in a dry atmosphere. In a modification, the container 3 may consist of a collapsable tube of soft metal, the open end of the tube being closed by a folded or cruumpled seal. In another modification, the container consists of. a glass bottle or jar provided with a screw cap and a suitable gasket. Specification 439,657, [Group V], is referred to.
