Abstract

543,657. Rolling. UNITED STEEL COS., Ltd., and RUSSELL, G. A. V. Oct. 30, 1940, No. 15868. [Class 83 (iv)] Vertical rolls to co-operate with horizontal rolls in a continuous mill train are mounted to be movable together bodily both axially and laterally to align any pass groove of the vertical rolls with the correct groove of the horizontal rolls. The rolls 2 are mounted in a frame 3, that also supports the pinion stand 4, adjustable vertically in a housing 5 by means of a lug 3a located between worm driven screws 6, 7. The housing is adjustable laterally in a guide frame 8. The rolls are bevel geared to a shaft 10 and to reduce overall height the rolls are driven from a wobbler 14 having a sliding connection to the lower end of the hollow shaft 13. The drive may be above, and the pinion stand below, the rolls.
