Abstract
543,450. Roll-film cameras. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co.). April 11, 1941, No. 4872. [Class 98 (i)] In a roll-film camera with means for automatically latching the film-winding means when a fresh exposure area is in position, the winding mechanism is locked by a movable latch when the back is open, so preventing operation of the mechanism at this time, which might result in disturbing the correct sequence of the film winding and latching operations, and possibly in jamming of the mechanism. Preferably the latch is released by the closure of the back. In the camera shown the film passes over a measuring roller which through gears 38, 39 rotates a gear 34 forming part of the film-wind locking mechanism. When the camera back is open, a lug 78 on a spring-pressed bell-crank lever 75 engages and locks the gear 39, thus preventing rotation of the measuring roller and consequent putting " out of phase " of the mechanism. A downturned arm 80 of the lever 75 extends into the bottom of a groove formed between two spaced walls 81, 82 on the camera body, and when the back is closed a flange 79 on it enters the groove and rocks the lever to unlatch the winding mechanism. The mechanism shown sets the shutter simultaneously with the winding of the film and interlocks the film-winding means and shutter release. The winding knob rotates a gear 31 which drives a mutilated gear 28 until the mutilation stops rotation of the latter gear, which is retained in this position by a pin 59 on it engaging a shoulder on a pivoted arm 57. During the rotation of the gear 28 a roller 26 on an arm rotating with the gear slides a frame 12 which moves a pivoted arm 10 anticlockwise to set the lens shutter. Rotation of gear 31 is continued until a notch 46 in a disc 36 frictionally driven from a gear 34 rotated by the film measuring shaft comes opposite a lug 45 on a lever 42 slidably and pivotally mounted on a pivot 44. The lug 45 then enters the slot and engages the gear 31. Slight further rotation of this gear then pushes the lever to the right, to the extent allowed by the pin 44, when the film winding mechanism is locked. As the lever 42 moves, a pin 56 on it rocks the arm 56 away from the pin 59 and so frees the gear 28 to the action of a spring 60 which turns it again into mesh with the gear 31 in readiness for the next film-winding and shutter-setting operation. The lever 42 in moving to the right also pushes a spring 51 out of notch in the shutter release plunger 19 so that it may now be depressed, when it operates through a bell-crank lever and link 14 a sliding plate 13 which moves against the end of the lever 10 and moves it clockwise to release the shutter. The link 14 also swings a lever 53 which rocks the lever 42 to the position shown in which the lug 45 is withdrawn from the notch in the disc 36, upon which the lever 42 is moved to the left by a spring 47, and the parts are in position for re-winding. Specification 543,451 is referred to.
