Abstract
543,156. Coating by spraying. LUXFER, Ltd., BATES, R. E., and BRIDGE, A. Aug. 22, 1940, No. 13355. [Class 95] A spraying machine for coating the interior of tubular bodies is provided with means for spinning a body B about a horizontal axis, means for traversing a nozzle 37 along the axis while the body is spinning, regulating means for the nozzle for timing the issue of the spray, and driving means such that the speed of rotation of the body is related to the speed of traverse so that an even coating of predetermined thickness and area is obtained. The body B is positioned by a cage 12 upon driving and supporting rollers 13. The rollers 13 are driven by chain 10 from a motor 2. The motor 2 drives through reduction gearing a shaft 6 having bevel gearing 27 by which an eccentric 31 is rotated to traverse the nozzle a trip valve 52 which regu- 37, a cam 61 for controlling lates the flow of coating paint to the nozzle, and a selector disc 25 with a pin 26 for rotating a Geneva plate 23 step by step, to that at the completion of the coating operation, the cage 12 is rotated and the coated body ejected therefrom. For coating the inside of the end, as well as the tubular portion of the body, the tube 38 carrying the spraying nozzle 37 is supported by a roller 50 which moves over a surface having a cam 43b by which the tube and nozzle are raised so that the spray is directed over the end wall. A lever 66 engaging the slots in the Geneva plate operates a stop motion when the plate, and therefore the cage, are not properly positioned to receive the body B in coating position. The cam 56 is formed in two angularly adjustable parts, so that the length of the operative portion of the cam can be adjusted to vary the period of coating.
