Abstract
542,894. Actuation of switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 26, 1941, No: 2599. Convention date, Feb. 28, 1940. [Class 38 (v)] A circuit-interrupting system comprises a fluid-actuated circuit-breaker and a normallyinoperative second interrupting device in the circuit, means responsive to an abnormal decrease in the pressure of the fluid-source rendering the second device operative to interrupt the circuit. The circuit-breaker 10 is arranged as in Specification 544,017, with an arcextinguishing fluid-blast admitted through valve 28 and conduit 16 from the source 27, which operates the movable contact through the crosshead 25, shaft 22, and motor 18, 19 to which fluid is admitted through pipes 32, 33 under control of a valve 31 and opening and closing solenoids 36, 37. If the pressure in reservoir 27 falls unduly, a switch 44 closes the circuit to a coil 43 which removes latch 42 and allows spring 41 to open an air-break switch 40, so opening a shunt-circuit to a fusible cut-out 38 which is of a rupturing capacity comparable with that of the circuit-breaker 10. The latter has backcontacts 48 which open when the breaker 10 opens, and the circuit of coil 43 is also adopted to be opened by back-contacts 49 of the switch 40.
