Abstract
542,853. Supply systems for discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 1, 1940, No. 15986. Convention date, Nov. 1, 1939. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] An electric discharge lamp 10 whose thermionic electrodes or the heaters therefor have to be preheated at starting is arranged with a glow discharge lamp 14 and vibrator coil 22 in series with the electrodes 11, 111 ; the contacts 23, 24 of the alternating current vibrator when closed shunt both the lamp 14 and coil 22 and cause a surge from the series coil 13 through the lamp to start the discharge. When the lamp is running the lamp 14 and coil 22 are out of circuit. U.S.A. Specification 1,951,112 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect: 91 also shows an arrangement using a bimetallic switch with a glow discharge device. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
