Abstract
543,171. Electric supply to discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 30, 1941, No. 1215. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1940. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] The pre-heated electrodes of a discharge device, e.g. a lamp, are supplied through the heating element 13 of a thermal switch 10, the contact member 11 of which bends under time delay and breaks contact at 12 thereby putting the full voltage on the lamp and starting it. When fully bent, the contact-member engages with the contact 14 which introduces the resistance 15 in parallel with the heater 13 and reduces the heating of 13 to the minimum so that the contact member is in an unstable position ready, withbut delay, to re-connect the filaments for direct heating in case the lamp goes out. The parallel resistance 15 also reduces flicher with each operation of the thermal switch in normal operation. Specification 384,626, [Group XL], is referred to.
