Abstract
542,375. Combustion-product plant. AKTIEBOLAGET GOTAVERKEN. March 7, 1940, No. 4307. Convention date, March 31, 1939. [Class 7 (i)] Two or more air compressors are provided for supplying an internal-combustion engine, the air being compressed through stages in one or more compressors and cooled while passing from one stage to the next, the other compressors being designed without this intermediate cooling. Fig. 1 shows two engine cylinders 1 fitted with opposed pistons 2, 3, the latter of which are connected to compressor pistons 4 operating in cylinders 5. The engine shaft drives a two-stage compressor 11, 12, the air being cooled while passing from the first to the second stage. This cooled compressed air, together with hot compressed air from the pumps 5, is passed through a heat-exchanger 28 and led by a conduit 30 to the engine inlet ports 31. Some of this air passes through the exhaust ports 32 and pipe 33, together with the exhaust gases, to form the combustion products. The compressor 11, 12 may be omitted, and one or more of the pumps 5 made two-stage with cooling-means. Some of the air may be passed directly to the exhaust pipe 33.
