Abstract
541,654. Envelopes. POWER, R. F. May 25, 1940, No. 9232. [Class 146 (ii)] A re-sealing device for an envelope comprises a strip of gummed paper with a fold 10 and a line 12 of perforations on each side of the fold, forming two flaps 13 for securing to opposite faces of the envelope, the parts between fold 10 and lines 12 being secured together by gum, staples, &c. One flap may be extended as 13a to provide space for the stamp and address and to obliterate the old stamp and address. To prevent mutilation of the enclosures, the centre of the line of perforations may be slit to receive a gummed strip. The lines of perforations may be staggered and stop short of the edges. To facilitate re-use, a window envelope may have an enclosure comprising a card having a different address on each face visible through the window. For a tuck-in envelope, the flap may be left ungummed. The sealing strips may also be used for closing a folded sheet of notepaper. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 133,837, [Class 146 (ii)].
