Abstract

539,689. Friction clutches; actuating mechanism, BORG & BECK CO., Ltd. June 3, 1940. No. 9692. Convention date, Oct. 11, 1939, [Class 80 (ii)] A clutch actuating lever C is pivoted on a strut 44 engaging a recess 45 in the lever and a recess 48 in a fixed part 10 of the frame, the strut 44 being free to rock about axes transverse to the longitudinal axis of the lever C. One end of the lever C is bifurcated to straddle the driven shaft 12 and has an inturned edge 39 which is rounded or knife-edged to bear against the clutch bearing B. At the opposite end of the lever C are secured the clutchengaging spring 25 and a rod 34 leading to the clutch pedal. Strengthening ribs 31 are formed on the lever C. The clutch itself has engaging fingers 17 pivoted at 18 on the cover 16, the clutch engaging pressure being transmitted to the pressure plate 15 by struts 21. Retractor springs 37 may connect the pressure plate 15 to the cover 16 and they may be of the type described in Specification 536,864.
