Abstract

539,473. Electric firelighters. LORCH, W., and ELGA PRODUCTS, Ltd. March 29, 1940, No. 5697. Addition to 533,742. [Class 39 (iii)] In an electric fire-lighter as described in the parent Specification, excessive heating at the inside bends of the heating element is avoided by increasing the pitch of the helically wound resistance wire 4 at the bends. The coiled wire is pulled out at the necessary points before inserting it in the tube together with magnesium strips which are converted into magnesium oxide as described in Specifications 336,949, [Class 39 (iii)], and 462,280. The tube is then bent into shape. The helix at the bends may be pulled out until it almost disappears. The tube is prevented from coming into direct contact with the fuel by a covering grid or grille of "Inconel" metal (Registered Trade Mark) extending over the whole tube or only over the bends.
