Abstract

538,932. Window blinds and shutters. BROWNBILL, E. M., and 'COLE, E. G. April 24, 1940, Nos.. 7374 and 8826. [Class 20 (iii)] A blind or shutter comprises upper and lower. sections 8, 9, Fig. 2, which are so interconnected that when the upper one is lowered the lower one is raised and which in the drawn position overlap to form a light trap and at the same time to allow air to pass for ventilation. Blind sections consisting of collapsable material are interconnected and actuated by cords 12 including , tension springs 14 and passing around pulleys 13. Roller blind sections are interconnected by cords secured to the ends of the cross bar of each section and passing around the roller of the other section. In a modification, blind sections 23, 24, Fig. 6, secured at the top and bottom respectively are mounted on rollers 232 engaging spur wheels 234 which are rotatably secured to slides 235 and which engage fixed racks 236, so that the blind rollers are rotated by moving the slides up or down by the rotation of a gear wheel 26. Upper and lower slat sections 15, 16, Fig. 4, of a shutter are moved up and down by slides 19, and the top and. bottom slats of the respective sections engage inclined grooves 17 directing the slats into a horizontal position as the shutter is closed.
