538,392. Ammonia solutions. WALLACE & TIERNAN. Ltd., and WILMSLOW, V. A. March 29, 1940, No. 5710. [Class 1 (ii)] To avoid forming a precipitate, e.g. in plant for chloramine treatment of water, when ammonia gas is added to hard water, the ammonia is first dissolved in soft water or water softened sufficiently for no precipitate to be formed, and the solution added to the remaining water, e.g. one-eighthundredth part of a main stream may be byepassed and so treated and returned to the main stream.
