Abstract

537,790. Methyl alcohol. CELEC CORPORATION, Ltd., and TOWNSEND, C. S. Jan. 12, 1940, No. 715. [Class 2 (iii)] Methyl alcohol is recovered from the vapour produced in the boiling of fleshy plants such as sisal, phormium tenax and aloe in alkaline solutions by collecting the vapour as it is given off and fractionally distilling it before or after condensation. In an example, sisal flesh from which the fibres have been removed is boiled in dilute sodium carbonate solution and the evolved vapour is led to a fractionating column. A plant suitable for the distillation is described in Specification 534,374, [Group III]. Specification 532,877, [Group V], is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
