536,919. Mines, detecting and destroying. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and YOUNG, A. P. Feb. 14, 1940, No. 2793. [Class 9 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] A permanent magnet, for use in destroying magnetic mines or for other purposes, consists of two end-pieces of high coercive force joined by a laminated bridge-piece of high permeability. Fig. 1 shows the heads 1, 2 of laminated structure, the outer laminations 7 being extended to receive bolts 6 which pass through the end of the bridge-piece 5 and packing pieces 8. The end of the bridge-piece and the surfaces of the pieces 1, 2 are ground to ensure good contact. Such a magnet may be secured to a float to float vertically and may be anchored, or one or more such magnets may be enclosed in. a hollow casing which floats horizontally, and may be similarly towed to explode magnetic mines.
