Abstract
536,862. Locking - nuts. CLAYSON, H. F. April 26, 1940, No. 7508. [Class 89 (i)] Nuts are rendered self-locking by passing the legs of a spring wire staple 11, Fig. 2, through holes drilled in the wall of a reduced and chamfered end part 3 of the nut. The protruding ends are bent round at 12, 13, Fig. 1, or in a modification, in the reverse direction. The whole of the wire lies in a plane normal to the axis of the bolt and insertion of the bolt causes the wire to be deflected both radially and axially. In another form the wire is wholly contained in the recess being held therein by a flanged ring 19, Fig. 6, notched at 16, 17 for the wire, both ring and wire being clamped-in the nut by flanging over the top of the recessed part thereof. More than one wire may be employed and one end of the wire may be anchored to the nut. According to the Provisional Specification a wire engaging one side of the bolt only may be employed.
