Abstract

536,662. Feeding webs. BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd., and MILLS, F. J. B. Jan. 5, 1940, No. 313. [Class 100 (i)] [Also in Group XX] A light-tight enclosure into which a film or other strip may be fed contains yieldinglymounted guiding members capable alone of causing the film to form a roll and permitting increase in the diameter of the roll. As shown, the guide members comprise arms 4 pivoted on spindles 5 and carrying rods 11 supporting rotatable overlapping plates 7 and rollers 6. Springs 13, 14 force the plates 7 towards the centre, and tails 10 on the arms 4 limit the movement. The film enters the enclosure 1 through a light trap 2 and a swinging guide 12, and its edges are engaged by discs 8 freely rotatable on ball bearings 9. A distance piece 16 of a length slightly less than the film width separates the disc 8. The arms 4 and rods 11 may be replaced by U-shaped members.
