Abstract
536,450. Valve amplifying circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Nov. 13, 1939, No. 29949. Convention date, Nov. 12, 1938. [Class 40 (v)] Negative feed-back in an audio-frequency amplifier is derived from an auxiliary electrode 5, which follows the input signal alternations by reason of the resistance 11, and is applied through a condenser 12 to the input circuit The distribution of electron current between the auxiliary electrode 5 and main output electrode 3 is varied by controlling the potential of an intermediate control electrode 6. This control is effected by a variable bias tapping 14 or by using A.V.C. potential obtained in an earlier stage of the receiver. On occurrence of strong input, the output from anode 3 is reduced by making the electrode 6 more negative, whereupon the negative feed-back from electrode 5 is increased thereby reducing the swing of the control grid 4 and eliminating possible distortion. In one modification the functions of the electrodes 3 and 5 are interchanged, and in another modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), two adjacent anodes are used and the distribution of electron current therebetween is controlled by a regulatable magnetic field. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 528,893.
