Abstract
536,444. Making cement grout &c. MORGAN, J. S., GAMMON, J. C., and MORGAN, H. S. Sept. 12, 1939, Nos. 25674 and 29555. [Class 86] [Also in Group V] Cement grout is made by mixing cement and water intensively in a colloid mill and then mixing with sand or other coarse material under less intensive conditions in a further mixing machine from which it is delivered under pressure; a preliminary mixing of the cement and water may be effected in a forced vortex and the material may be circulated between the vortex and mill, and between a further vortex and the second mixer. As shown, the cement falls on to a cone 38 into a vortex formed in the hopper 23 by. water circulated by the colloid mill 11 through a tangential opening 29; a chamber 27 forms a trap for foreign material. After a period of circulation the slurry can be deflected by a pipe. 33 to a second hopper 24 where a second vortex is formed. Underneath the hopper 24 is a mixer 12 discharging into a tangential pipe 19 for circulation, or away from the machine. The pipes include lengths of hose 32, 34 which can be selectively nipped for circulating through the vortex-chambers, or discharge.
