Abstract
535,681. Alloys; annealing. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS, Ltd. Feb. 16, 1940, No. 2958. Convention date, Feb. 24, 1939. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Copper alloys having age hardening properties contain 0.05-5 per cent of beryllium and 0.002-0.1 per cent. of lithium with or without one or more other constituents such as 1.5-3 per cent. of cobalt, 0.5-3 per cent of cadmium, or 0.5-5 per cent. of silver. The beryllium may be added as a copper alloy containing up to 10 per cent. of beryllium, and the lithium content may be produced by the addition of 0.005-0.3 per cent. of lithium, a further 0.005-0.3 per cent. being added just before pouring. Age hardening may be effected by cooling quickly from above 600‹C., followed by re-heating to below 600‹C., coldworking being if desired applied before or after the first heat-treatment or both. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also manganese as a constituent of the alloys. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
