Abstract
535,152. Discharge converters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and GALLIZIA, E. Jan. 30, 1940, No. 1846. [Class 39 (i)] Metal clad vapour electric arc converters are degassed by furnacing the converter complete with seals and other associated parts with the inside in contact with an atmosphere of hydrogen, or a mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen. In the latter case the mixture may be obtained from ammonia by a cracking process, and in either case some water vapour may be present in the atmosphere. The pressure of the gaseous atmosphere may be atmospheric or higher and the furnacing temperature 600‹C. or more. The outside of the converter may also be in contact with the gases referred to or with an inert gas during the furnacing. Specification 526,431 is referred to.
