Residual gases.-In gas-filled electric incandescent lamps, blackening of the bulb is prevented by using a gas filling of low pressure containing a small proportion of hydrogen. The pressure of the gas when cold should not exceed 50 mm. of mercury and the proportion of hydrogen should not be greater than 3 per cent by volume.
