Abstract
533,130. Spark plug insulators. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Oct. 12, 1939, No. 27702. Convention date, Oct. 14, 1938. Addition to 481,769. [Class 22] Spark plug insulators are made by mixing from 2 to 10 per cent. of zircon or its equivalent in zirconia, up to 95 per cent. alumina and from 2 to 98 per cent. of an alumino-silicate, and firing the mixture between 1600‹ C. and 1800‹ C. into a dense non-porous body of corundum, mullite and zirconium silicate glass. Thus alumina 63.5, zircon 2.5 and kyanite 34 per cent. may be used. Kyanite may be replaced by andalusite, sillimanite, mullite or clay. Up to 10 per cent. of talc may be added to lower the maturing temperature and up to 5 per cent. chromium oxide to increase thermal conductivity. Specification 472,110 is referred to.
