Abstract

532,384. Electric cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and SCOTT, T. R. June 20, 1939, No. 17959. Drawing to Specification. [Class 36] A conductor is surrounded with a layer of, or, containing, rubber, a layer of brass being provided between the outer surface of the conductor and the inner surface of the insulation to minimize ionization. Stranded cables have each strand thus treated or the outer layer of strands only, or a separate layer of brass or brass coated tape applied. Brass coated lead tapes may be used or a brass coated lead sheath. Additional insulation, subsequently applied may comprise a mixture of mononuclear vinylhydrocarbon compounds and polyisobutylene or other aliphatic mono-olefines. Paper-lappings esterified, or impregnated with polymer may be used, or a mixture of polystyrene and rubber. If a metal external sheathing is applied the inner surface may also be coated with brass. The conductor may be hollow and expanded to compress the intermediate insulation. Specifications 246,815, [Class 36], and 507,323, [Group IV], are referred to.
