Abstract
531,864. Utilizing aircraft exhaust gases. JUNKERS FLUGZEUG-UND-MOTORENWERKE AKT.-GES. Aug. 4, 1939, No. 22662. Convention date, Sept. 2, 1938. [Class 4] In the utilization of exhaust gases of internalcombustion engines for propulsion purposes, the exhaust pipes 3 of the cylinders are grouped into sheaves or bunches and are so arranged that their exhaust nozzles 3b lie in a plane approximately transverse to the direction of outflow of the gases. The exhaust pipes may be covered with a fairing 4 provided with a fresh air inlet 5 and extended at 7 behind the nozzles to conceal the flames issuing therefrom. In some cases, a partition 14 is arranged between the fairing and the engine for directing heated air into a conduit 8 for heating purposes, the exhaust flames being quenched by air entering through inlets 9 in a fairing 10.
