Abstract

531,242. Armed motor boats. PAINE, H. SCOTT-. March 25, 1939, No. 9411. [Class 113 (ii)] A vessel of the hard-chine type, consisting of a hull 10, deck 9, and wheelhouse 12, is constructed so that the sheer lines 11 provide a smoothly curved contour extending from a high freeboard portion forward to a lower platform aft. The freeboard aft may be about a third to a half of the freeboard forward. At the forward part the deck camber is less than that of the after part, and the centre line of the deck immediately adjacent the bow is sloped downwardly slightly. The sides 57 of the boat are flared outwards towards the gunwale, the flare increasing progressively from the transom to the stern. Two torpedo tubes 33 and torpedoes 34 are carried on the after part of the deck. The boat is armed with automatic gun-turrets 30, 31, to which access can be had below the deck. The wheelhouse 12 includes a conning bridge 62, as described in Specification 531,245, and the boat has three engines arranged as described in Specification 527,732.
