Abstract
531,052. Cooling liquids. SMITH. F. C. July 11, 1939, No. 20154. [Class 64 (iii)] In cooling oil or other liquid, the liquid flows through tubes over which gaseous and liquid cooling media are caused to pass simultaneously in the same direction: Water pipes 7 with spraying nozzles 7a are located below the oil tubes 2, and a fan 6 draws air through inlets 5. Baffles 8 trap excess moisture which returns to a reservoir 1b. In a modification, the water sprays are arranged above a column of serpentine pipes and the fan creates a down draught, the air escaping through vertical ducts at the side of the casing. Vertical cooling tubes with a horizontal draught may also be used.
