[Class 60] Hypodermic needles have the points reground in a machine employing three discs 4, 5, 6, Fig. 7 spaced by washers 7, 8 and clamped on a sleeve against a collar with set screw 44 by a nut 43. The sleeve is mounted on a shaft 9 having a driving pulley 10 and secured against end play by a collar 45. On slackening the screws 44, 46, the shaft 9 may be slid from its bearings and the sleeve and discs removed without dismantling. The needle 16 is clamped in a holder 15 swivelling about a pin 17 under control of a spring and nut 20 and a fork 27 straddling a pin 26 on a part 22, to which the holder 18 is pivoted at 23, and which is pivoted at 24 to a member 25 vertically adjustable but not rotatable in a support 3. An arm 30 on a shaft 29 carries at one end a stone 34, for use in dressing the centre disc, and an oil reservoir 36 with a leather feed strip 37, and at the other end a fibre pad 31 for pressing the needle against the disc. A handle throws the arm from the full line to the dotted line position a spring being arranged to maintain the arm in either position. After grinding the point on the centre disc the handle 21 is used to deflect the point against the side wheels 5, and 6, Fig. 8, the pin 26 causing the needle to rotate axially at the same time.
