Abstract
475,216. Sharpening knives &c. STANLEY, A. J. Oct. 7, 1936, No. 27265. [Class 60] A machine for sharpening knives &c. comprises a base 1 carrying a removable electric motor 2 and a table 3, lugs 4 being formed on the table and supporting, by means of pivots 7, two tubular bodies 5 formed with lugs 6 receiving the pivots. Each body 5 has screwed thereto a plate 6 with a downwardly extending lug 9 which is perforated to receive a screwed pivot pin 11 formed on a nut 10. The nuts 10 are screwed oppositely and engage the screwed parts 20 of a rod 19 having a central portion 18 formed with a groove 17 which fits over an internal web 16 in a bracket 15 mounted on the table; by rotation of the rod, the bodies 5 are swung towards or from each other about their pivots, whereby the grinding- wheels 23 may be adjusted for wear. Mounted in each body 5 is a shaft 22 having thereon two abrasive wheels 23, those on one shaft overlapping those on the other, and the wheels are driven by belts 30 from the motor 2. A knife &c. to be sharpened is placed with its edge in contact with the wheels and is moved endways ; guide pins 31 on a bracket 32 may be provided to position the blade.
