Abstract
529,663. Self contained supply systems; charging batteries. AKT. - GES. BROWN, BOVERIE, & CIE. June 5, 1939, No. 16490. Convention date, June 7, 1938. [Class 38 (iv)] Variable speed generators, with.-The load circuit voltage is maintained constant by a regulator R adjusting the excitation of the dynamo D and the additional voltage for charging the battery B is' obtained by an auxiliary regulator Z responsive to battery current in a coil 23 which operates upon a resistance 22 between battery and load circuit L. A second coil 26 on the auxiliary regulator, responsive to the voltage across the resistance 22, is rendered operative by a thermal switch 29 to reduce the charging rate when the battery is fully charged and the operation may be adjusted according to the type of battery by a manual switch 35 controlling the value of a resistance in circuit with this coil. The cut-in switch P has an auxiliary contact 31, rendering the main regulator inoperative until the cut-in switch has closed and a third coil 32 in the auxiliary regulator maintains a short circuit on the load circuit resistance 22 until the main regulator has opened the circuit of this coil at 33 by its initial operation ; the effect is a vibratory action whereby the coils 23, 32 co-operate to maintain the short circuit until the charging currents is established. A resistance 36 adjusts the charging current.
