Abstract
436,148. Automatic regulation. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. March 26, 1934, No. 9418. Convention date, March 25, 1933. [Class 38 (iv)] Compensation for wattless current flowing in a circuit is obtained by a capacitative device under the control of a power factor relay which is dependent on the phase angle between the supply voltage and the vector sum of the load current and a constant current which is proportional to that in the compensating device. The compensating condenser battery 2 is connected to the circuit 4 through a switch 3. A power factor relay 5 has its two potential windings energized from the supply voltage whilst the current winding is energized through a current transformer 6 and also from the phase of the circuit connected to earth through a condenser 7. This condenser 7 is suitably dimensioned so that the current through the relay corresponds with that taken by the battery 2. The relay always indicates the power factor when both the consumer 1 and the device 2 are connected to the circuit, and controls the moving contact 8 to complete a circuit for either the closing coil 9 or the opening coil 10 of the switch 3. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 362,134 and 370,890.
