Abstract
528,603. Leading-in wires. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and SCOTT, W. J. May 10, 1939, No. 13962. [Class 39 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] Stems for incandescent or gaseous discharge lamps comprise a flared portion, and a short tubular portion in which the pinch for the leadin wires is formed so that when the pinch has been made little or no tubular part remains. Each stem is manufactured by holding it in a clamp 1, 2, having a recess 8 receiving the flared portion, the tubular portion being downwardly directed through an aperture 3 and heated by flames below the clamp. Thus the flared portion of the stem is protected by the clamp from the heat. The recess 8 may be rectangular in form with supporting ribs. The formation of the clamp as a pair of separable jaws facilitates removal of the stem.
