Abstract

528,092. Quick-action switches; actuation of switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and EDEN, C. G. April 27, 1939, No. 12628. [Class 38 (v)] A cord-operated switch comprises a movable contact arm 4 engageable by a member 7 having cam surfaces 9 to open, in the full-line position, and close, in the dotted-line position, a movable and fixed contact 5, 3. Member 7 is pivoted at 8 and formed with ratchet-surfaces 10 engageable by a pawl 11 on an arm 12 to which the cord is attached. A spring 13 restores the arm about pivot 8 after each pull. Member 7 may be in two parts for operating two switches, the ratchet element being located between the two parts. The cams may be in phase so as to be suitable for two-pole working, or they may be out of phase to provide a two-way switch, a strip 17 then connecting one contact 3 to the other contact 5 so as to form the common pole. In Fig. 1, the base 1 is shown separated from the switch for purposes of clarity. Specification 235,260, [Class 38 (v)], is referred to.
