Abstract

527,611. Smallarm projectiles. DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN AKT.- GES., and RUPP, W. April 17, 1939, No. 11627. [Class 9 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] . The jacket 1, Fig. 1, of a partly jacketed smallarm projectile, is formed with two compartments 4, 5, from a sheet metal blank by stamping and drawing operations, the partition 3 between the two compartments constituting an integral part of the jacket. The compartments are filled with cores of lead or other substance, including explosive material before the jacket is finally pressed into shape. In making the jacket, a cavity 10 is first formed by pressing - up t h e centre of the circular blank 11 in dies. The marginal portion of the blank is then turned back by dies 12, 13, Fig. 4, and subsequently drawn in dies 15, 16, Fig. 5, to form the walls of the jacket, the side walls of the rear compartment being thus formed of double thickness. In the final operation, the cores having been inserted, the bullet is pressed into its final shape by dies 22, 23, Fig. 6.
