527,393. Controlling aircraft. JUNKERS FLUGZEUG-UND-MOTORENWERKE AKT.- GES. April 11, 1939, No. 10959. Convention date, April 9, 1938. [Class 4] An aircraft having means for influencing the airflow about the wing to act as a brake has means whereby, when the retarding device is set in the operative position, the transmission members of the aileron control are adjusted to restrict or prevent the angular movement of such portions of the ailerons as lie in the wake of the retarding device. As shown, ailerons 2 are operated from a rod 5 through a bell-crank lever 6 and a link 7, further ailerons 3 disposed in the wake of adjustable flaps 1 are actuated from the shaft 5 through a rocking-shaft 8 a member 22 slidable on the shaft, links 9, 11 and a bell-crank lever 10. The link 9 is connected by a link 18 to the flap 1 so that upon adjustment of the flap through a rod 12 angular deflection of the aileron 3 is diminished or suppressed. When the flap 1 is brought into the braking position the link 9 may come into line with the pivot of the shaft 8 so that the aileron 3 is locked, preferably in a slightly depressed position. Alternatively, other locking means may be provided and the transmission to the ailerons 3 uncoupled when the flaps 1 are brought into use.
