Abstract
527,097. Discharge apparatus. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. March 31, 1939, No. 10104. Convention date, March 31, 1938. [Class 39 (i)] An electrode assembly for an electron discharge device comprises a pair of parallel insulating spacers, a cathode supported at its ends in apertures in the spacers, and a tubular anode surrounding the cathode, which anode has (i) a flange with ears for securing the anode between the spacers and (ii) remote from the tubular portion fins extending perpendicularly to the flange with lugs on their ends between which lugs the ends of the spacers are embraced. In the form shown, the mica spacers 4 have perforations to receive the cathodes 6 and transverse shield 7. Each anode 5 has a longitudinal flange 10 formed by two flaps 8 welded together. Ears 11 integral with the flaps 8 are inserted through perforations in the spacers and are opened to engage the spacers with the ends of the flaps 8. Lugs 13 on the fins 12 engage the spacers to prevent rotation of the flange about an axis through the ears. The shield 7 is preferably of metal. The anodes may be made from a sheet of metal, such as nickel, and may have stiffening ribs or channels pressed lengthwise along the flange. The flange 10 may be slightly longer than the anode to provide a clearance between the two. The distance between the lugs 12 may be slightly less than the width of the spacer ends to give a good grip.
