Abstract
526,813. Hair-waving appliances ; stoves. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., DIETERICHS, W., and STEVENS, G. A. C. March 2, 1939, No. 6886. [Class 131] [Also in Group XI] A heater for heating tress clips, used in a hairwaving process, prior to application of the clip to the hair comprises a number of metal heating elements for the clips disposed externally of a wall and thermally connected to internal heattransmitting means (for example, metallic fins or a fluid) disposed in or around a stream of hot gases generated by a central burner. As shown in Fig. 2, a hollow column 45 supports a cylindrical casing 10 heated internally by a gas ring 41 and lagged at the top and bottom by insulating cement 18, 37. A number of copper rods 25 pass radially through the casing to vertical brass rods 22 which are thus heated by conduction and, in turn, heat the tress clips temporarily applied to them. The gas is supplied through a pipe 3 and is controlled thermostatically. The heat-responsive device of the thermostat is situated inside a vertical .brass tube replacing one of the brass rods 22, and a similar brass tube accommodates a thermometer. In a modification, the radial rods 25 are dispensed with and the casing is provided with internal and external fins 43, 44, Fig. 4, the outer extremities of the external fins terminating in the vertical heating rods 22. In a further modification, Fig. 6, a single gas burner 62 maintains a circulation of oil through brass tubes 60 as indicated by the arrows. Electrical heating may be used instead of gas heating.
