Abstract

526,512. Optical instruments. BARR & STROUD, Ltd., FRENCH, J. W., and FOSTER, C. March 18, 1939, No. 8691. [Class 97 (i)] The graticule of a micrometer eyepiece has a pivotal movement in place of the usual sliding movement in guides. In the form shown the graticule 5 is held by a carrier C pivoted at 4 and operated by a micrometer screw 10 against the action of a spring, the screw and spring acting through pins 8 on a stud 6 secured to the top of the carrier. The eyepiece comprises an optical system for viewing the scale at two spaced points consisting of outer reflectors from which the light passes through to central reflectors, and thence to the eyepiece lens. In a modification, the graticule is carried by a member pivoted to two pivoted arms, the mechanism forming a link parallelogram.
