526,462. Adhesives. PHILADELPHIA QUARTZ CO. March 16, 1939, No. 8497. Convention date, March 16, 1938. Drawings to Specification. [Class 121] An adhesive suitable for use in the manufacture of corrugated paper is prepared by making a stable suspension of clay in an aqueous solution of an alkali metal silicate having a molecular ratio of silica to alkali metal oxide of 2.5-4.0 and of such concentration that the addition or removal of a small quantity of water causes a large change in viscosity. The clay may be first peptised by sodium silicate, hydroxide, carbonate or phosphate or tannic acid, gallic acid, or quebracho. The final adhesive may be heated to 50-160‹C. to stabilize the suspension.
